Concept 86 #3

If I was Jason Bourne in The Bourne Identity, I would first be looking around my whereabouts to find some sort of clues or evidence of some previous memories. If I were to find something around myself that would hold a previous memory, I would try to follow up on it. If I wasn't able to find any leading factor as to who I was, I would then go around trying to find a way to either regain my memory or try to find something that I may remember from before. I wouldn't rest at any cost, since I have 24-hours until my enemies find me and try to kill me.

Concept 85 #2

I believe it is better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all. I think that having a feel of love is better than not knowing the feeling of love because if you never loved at all, you wouldn't be able to really know what love is, in a sense. By loving someone, you get a whole lot better view of love and if it's there. Losing someone you loved is tough, but there's a purpose generally behind it and it could be that there's someone else that you could love even more. I believe you have a better life when you love someone, regardless if you lose them.

Concept 84 #3

I think that the scariest movie I've seen would be Texas Chainsaw Massacre. I think it was the fact that this strange and odd family would have fun torturing and killing innocent people that'd stop by near their town and how they would torture them. None of my fears from the film have any relevance to anything that's occurred in my past experience of life. I believe that it was a great horror movie overall.

Concept 83 #1

My favorite superhero would have to Batman. Even though Bruce Wayne is an ordinary person who has exquisite fighting skills, he is a courageous warrior who seeks justice and does it himself, secretly helping a unit of police officers. He has these tools of his uniform to help him with situations in battle, keeping his composure to be very well aware. He didn't really have a family growing up, but his butler Alfred has been his family for practically his whole life. He is the main person who helps Batman through certain conditions, discussing of the boundaries that Batman has and boundaries that Bruce Wayne has. Having an extremely wealthy ordinary man that is a masked vigilante at night who puts criminals away and fights for justice is a great background that people love to watch.

Concept 82 #1

The duo of Wyatt Earp and Doc Holliday was an interesting one. Wyatt can be a very vengeful person but he is about following the role of justice while being somewhat of a loose cannon as well. Doc, however, is more a gambler, plays things how he wants to, more for humor and his own pleasure. I don't really know the duo of Roger Murtaugh and Martin Riggs because I haven't seen Lethal Weapon.

Concept 81 #1

Stare Wars III where Anikin Skywalker was left to die but was actually the beginning of Darth Vadar. Men In Black II when the Laura was the light the whole time and she had been building a relationship with Agent J (Will Smith). Deep Blue when the female doctor used herself as a distraction and actually ended up getting herself killed, and then the protagonist character almost died while the shark tried to escape.

Italian Neorealism and Independent Cinema

I didn't really get to watch Brick due to being absent when we watched the film, but Do The Right Thing does have a few of the elements of an independent cinema. The beginning wasn't clear and the ending was ambiguous. A few of the characters, mainly the main character were complex/ambiguous, as well as the narrative being a drama in an undramatic present. It did show a vision of society of the minorities and some of the issues that they were going through at the time, which was the opposite of an independent cinema characteristic.

Italian neo-realism staked out new cinematic territory, it helped show where they came from and what happened while they lived there.

I believe that Italian Neo-realism inspired Independent Cinema by creating a film that was out of the ordinary, that they would show reality and what happens in the lives around them that they may not have seen, they wouldn't edit it because they wanted the audience to get a perspective of reality and not how Hollywood portrays films.

Concept 79 #1

10 of the funniest films that I've ever seen are: The Hangover, The Hangover 2, Jwanna Mann, Step Brothers, Grown Ups, Dinner For Schmucks, The Other Guys, Madea Goes To Jail, Medea's Big Happy Family, & Due Date. A lot of these movies seem to have at least one character that has the outgoing strange personality, they have a mix of people that have different personalities, they tend to do stupid things, how they talk, how they interact with others.

Concept 68 #2

I believe that the delivery of each line would be self-explanatory for the most part, but throughout the dialogue contain underscored words to hint the subtext. To make the meaning clear, I would help to have the body language or possibly even the tone of voice help signal what is being meant by the underscored words.

African-Americans portrayed in films

I believe that the roles of African-Americans have changed over time. Before, they usually have a minor role, usually stereotypical, and in thrillers die. African-American roles have significantly increased over time, being leading characters, very intellectual, courageous and influential.

Suspense Techniques

Define the terms first:

Dialogue Means Nothing- Character must be pre-occupied; eyes reveal what a person wants/needs

Keep the Story Simple- simplistic linear stories that audience can easily follow

Characters Must Break Cliche- make characters exact opposite of stereotypes

Use Humor to Add Tension- ironic situations for character; coincidence

Two Things Happening at Once- contrasting situations; two unrelated things together; audience focuses on one, the second usually being a humor gesture/dialogue

Suspense is Information- show audience what is to happen while the characters are unaware for it to happen

Surprise and Twist- never have an expected ending; lead towards one direction (ending) then "pull the rug out from under them"

Warning May Cause MacGuffin- random plot devices; builds dramatic tension

Concept 64 #1

One film that had a big speech by a character was in "Miracle" when USA Coach Herb Brooks gives a huge pre-game speech before they play the Soviet team. The speech was given at that time because they had played the Soviet team before and lost drastically. They had to win that game to qualify for the Gold Medal, and it was definitely effective as they won that game and the Championship game to win the Gold.

Concept 63 #3

For my promo, I would start off with a group of people on a hike in a calm standard weather, then people on a walk in a light breeze wind and sun shining with clear blue skies. There would be relaxing soothing music with voice-over narration saying "Nature is such a beautiful thing in life, it can uplift a person's spirits, however..." and then show rainstorms in the woods, thunderstorms, lightning, blizzards, strong heavy winds with music in the background that's very dark and "evil" like. The voice-over narration would then say "Nature can knock you down on your ass. It's your challenge to fight back and bring yourself back up from any ultimate low." Then would cue a battle song and then the title of the TV series called "Man Fights Back Against Nature".

Twilight Zone Reflection

One way or technique that they would use to add the suspense would be the dangerous possibilities of what was to happen if they removed the bandages too early. The patient was wanting to get the bandages off, but the doctor was discussing the repercussions if they were to, talking about her bone structure and tissue on her face and how none of the treatments had really been helping her.

What Are Film Genres? Activity 2

I recent thriller type genre movie that I've seen would be The Devil Inside. It's mainly a documentary, but it does have a thriller concept. The protagonist's mother was possessed by multiple demons and ended up killing people during an exorcism. She was put into a rehabilitation center in Italy where she was heavily medicated and they assumed that she was sane during the killings. The conspiracy was that she was possessed at the time or that there were things that initiated the killings to occur, but it was really the multiple demons that possessed the mother for her to be the way she was. Later the demons spread and ended up killing everyone that was a part in the process/case.

What Are Film Genres? Activity 1

Genre is a type/style of movie. My favorite type of genre in film would be Action/Adventure. My 3 favorite movies would be Captain America, Thor, and Green Lantern. All three of theses movies are superhero style movies, but all three have generally the same concept. Majority of the time, Action/Adventure genre movies deal with the hero or protagonist being practically at their lowest, they seek an opportunity and take it, and then they have an intense battle/fight between a rival/antagonist and get the girl in the end, generally. Other Action/Adventure genre movies can start off where they are in battle and dominate the enemy, they are given a challenge, they come into conflict in the process either during or before the real challenge, and then reach an epic battle in which they dramatically win.

Concept 45 #1

TRON, Transformers (1-3) and Lord of the Rings (1-3) are all examples of movies where an character's life is challenged by extraordinary events or circumstances. In TRON, the kid's father's company was taken over after his father was found missing, the son went back to the old arcade where he would play with his dad and entered a world that he couldn't imagine. He was able to find his father, as well as find out what was taking place in the TRON world. In Transformers, Sam Widwickee was just a normal high school kid looking to buy his first car, and ended up owning an Autobot, which led to him being in the middle of a war between Autobots and Decepticons. He then goes off to college to live a normal life and once again is in the middle of another war. In the final movie he was found living in the real world looking for a job/career and finds himself being a big help in a major battle between the Autobots and Decepticons. He was looked at as a "messenger" but he was an ordinary person who saved the world and a hero within 3-5 years. In Lord of the Rings, Frodo Baggins was just an ordinary hobbit, and then put in the middle of a colossus battle/war between men, , hobbits, elves and dwarfs against orcs to destroy a ring. He was just a simple regular hobbit in a town, and ended up being a hero along the journey.

Concept 44 #2

My favorite "good guy" sidekick would be Robin. Robin would help out Batman after he was to live with Bruce Wayne who was Batman in the evening. Robin first wanted revenge but later found to control his anger and try to help the greater good, just like Batman, so he became his sidekick.

Concept 43 #2

The person I care for most is my mom. A trait I least like about her is that she has been either having "selective hearing" or she is actually no paying attention or seriously can't hear. This has been established since I was 12, but it hasn't happened that much over the years, but does a couple times more than it should. I would say this started to occur because of her age and what she does; she is now going to be 50 and she is almost done working as a firefighter which she has been doing for about 30 years. I love her dearly and is the best mom I could've asked for.

Concept 42 #2

In the movie A Bug's Life, Flik's maintains the sam attitude and beliefs throughout the film, and alters other characters around him, such as the Princess and the entire ant community. Flik was sad at times, but his beliefs remain the same as well as the character he is in the story.

Concept 41 #2

My action/adventure hero would attempt to save all ten people regardless of the situation or outcome. I don't really understand why he would save the loved one last rather than first, but if that were the case, he would still attempt to save that loved one even if he may die with that person. He would make sure all of the rescued citizens were in safe territory while he would rush back to rescue his loved one, but he wouldn't be able to make it in time to save his loved one.
